Right now my windows xp is having issues and wont startup. I want to try to repair the installation with the xp disc but I do not have the product key. Ubuntu is on the same computer. Is there a way to find the product key through ubuntu?

If you are just doing a repair of XP and not a fresh install you should not need the product key. Put in your Win XP disc and boot from it. Once the disc has booted instead of doing a fresh install type the letter r and hit enter. This will get you into the recovery console. When it asks which Windows you want to repair select it (usually type number 1and hit enter) Now when you get the command prompt type fixboot and hit enter. This should get windows up and running again. To repair any other errors with xp at the command prompt type chkdsk /r and hit enter. Now is a good time to go for supper because it usually takes awhile. When it is finished and you are back at the command prompt Type exit and hit enter to reboot your computer. You should be able to boot into XP now using the GRUB bootloader that installed with Ubuntu. Once you get back into Win XP it would be a good time to get Magic Jelly BEan. Its a program that will help you get your Win XP product key. Its also free. Now write the product key on your XP disk so you always have it handy. Good luck.
