I've been a mechanic for 12 years now and I haven't found any free software for repairing vehicles. In fact the program I have now costs me $185.00 a month to use. But if for some chance you do find one, let me know!
Ok, i've been having trouble with my computer for a couple months now. From time to time my computer will crash on me for no reason, i could be typing, or browsing the web, then everything would just freeze. I wouldnt then have to manually turn it off. Also, ive noticed that my computer always freezes when I click the "repair" option on my wireless network connection. Im starting to think this is a hardware malfunction connected with my wireless network adapter. The problem is, i cannot un-install it because its embedded within my computer. Theres no way to uninstall. And ive had several encounters with the blue screen of death! Ive re-formated my computer two or three times to no avail. Please give me tips!!
Okay I had this problem my self. I removed the wireless card and used an external card. If you have a Notebook, there should be a few access panels on the bottom of the computer. Inside one of these panels should be your wireless card. if you remove it, it should solve the problem.

Problem is with your PC's RAM. These are the coomon symptoms when any of the chip placed on RAM got dry and is usually termed as dry SMDs'.
I was on line and then just out of nowhere, I could not connect. This computer is obviously fine, but on the other one it cannot even "see the network". I did all the disable/enable and repair, but I cannot connect on computer number one.
Any thoughts?
OK I'm reading and the title don't match your problem... I believe that one computer cannot see your network not network cannot see computer..
I one computer is connected to the router/modem these devices are working properly. if not both computers won't work..

with most laptops there are a switch/button/function key that activates/de-activates the wireless card read your owners manual....
Are these embedded wireless devices,,, can you move these devices from one machine to another... do you have an extra wireless card to try..

1. Try to PING the troubling PC from the normal PC to see is it good and have good ICMP reply.

i had installed windows vista on drive C: and windows XP sp2 on drive D:.
but i infected by virus in xp and i had to install xp again on drive d, but when it completes i knew that my vista option that let me choose which version of windows to load is not shown anymore.
when i start computer it goes to xp.

Go into XP. Insert the Vista distribution disk. If you have AUTORUN, just wait for it to ask you if you want to install it. Go from there.
Hi people,
Found heaps of win32 viruses in my girlfriends computer. (Using Avast). Couldn't repair any of the files so I deleted them. (yes, i shouldnt have, kicking myself allready).
Restarted comp and now it boots to login screen. If i press ok to go in it just logs off and goes back to the same screen.
Avast does popup when re-starting saying that running avset.exe would be dangerous. Either pressing yes or no to run program doesnt change anything. Still can't log in.
I cant get into the bios to change the boot order, tried F2, DEL, ESC (if i could get to change boot order, my recovery cd would work)
F8 does bring up the Safe mode, etc, screen but Ive tried running all and no difference.
ANY SUGGESTIONS??
1. Take drive out an run it as another drive on another computer.?
2. Try and get a startup disk for dos?
3. Some sort of program for a USB drive to try and boot up that way?

Get your winxp install disk and repair the installation or restore from a backup.
Try doing a system restore and use some other virus program. Norton, AVG are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info
you suggestion 1 is the best, put the drive in another machine and get the info off of it. then put a new operating system on it , or download from symantic, nortons ghost ( it used to be free ) , and ghost an image to the drive. i suggest this way so you dont have to mess with activation. windows can be a (bleep) when it comes down to that , any driver issuse from there a free site to go to for most drivers is www.driversguide.com

1%26gt; they forget to connect usb ports on computer case to your motherboard or some jumper setting on motherboard relating to usb is not set or removed accidentally.

In either case, call service engineer who has replaced the motherboard to fix it.
I suggest you to install VI RAID tool. This will detect the extra devices which is going to connect. I am sure this will fix the issue.Please try this and I am sure this will work.

I recently decided to take a huge leap into the computer repair / internet cafe business. I have a retail location and i am in the process of setting things up. But for the life of me i cannot find where to get decent Furniture (more or less desk or cubicle type structure) but not no awful looking fold out table. Some decent comfortable semi enclosure type furniture. One that can hold a comp and monitor or hide the comp and just hold in view the monitor and keyboard. PLEASE HELP!! I suppose to have a grand opening in a little more than two weeks!!!
The store/cafe I work for got all of it's desks from Ikea and the chairs from Staples. It's not cheap but you'll need to accept that.
Also, on a professional note, the idea of semi enclosed spaces for a cafe seems like a good idea in the start but I've been witness and have heard of some pretty nasty things happening including confiscation of computers by the police for illegal activities being conducted on the computers. Open and clean spaces with bright lighting imply that your cafe is a clean and fun place to play games and surf the web. It keeps people completing questionable transactions and doing questionable things on your computers. The store I work for gets alot of traffic everyday just because people think it's a friendly and clean place to be.

Ok, tech heads, im in trouble! Early last year my computer crashed and couldnt be repaired. That wasn't an issue as I was planning on buying a lap top this year. However, all my vital data such as photos and documents were on the hard drive (which obviously cant be put in a lap top) I need the data from the harddrive to add to my new lap top, but when attempting to put the old hard drive into my brothers PC, it said we needed to reactivate windows. I am so confused and have no technology brains at all! How can I get my data from my old hard drive, onto my new lap top??
The putting your hard drive into another computer to recover data can be done if you know how. Temporaly remove a CDROM or DVD Drive from your brothers computer take a look at the CD Drive and see how the jumper is set (the jumper is that little plasitc that indicates if the CD Drive is a slave a master or Cable Select. Your Hard drive will have to mimic this. So change the Jumber on the hard drive to be the same as the cd or dvd drive you pulled out. Now with the Jumper set to mimic your cd drive,the data and power cable connected reboot your computer and see if windows detects the drive it will probably appear as drive D, E or F
I would buy a external harddrive enclosure from www.tigerdirect.ca which will only cost you about $30 and allow you to access your hard drive through USB cable without having to install the old drive into someone elses computer. The great thing about these enclosures is it allows you to make any old hard disk compatible with any system and instantly portable.
if you want to keep your data then DO NOT reactivate windows.
best and only thing you should do is take it to a computer technician (preferably who is your best friend). But be careful as it does cost a lot of money to retrieve data which has been deleted!

I have changed out my battery on my mercedes benz slk 230 and now the engine idle is so rough I can't drive it. I have read a few places online that they needed to reset the onboard computer and I'm wondering how can I do this without towing it to a repair station.
Disconnecting the battery clears the onboard computer. It will take a few days of driving for it to normalize itself. A varied mix of driving conditions is recommended including city, highway and suburban. This is normal.
Disconnecting the battery for any length of time clears all the computer memories. You should go through a prescribed MBz DRIVE CYCLE which includes about a dozen specific activities within about 3 days of time. The activities should include stop and go, cruising between 50 and 80 Km/hour, plus a continuous period of time of sustained Autobahn speeds with at least two panic stops in the middle. With luck you might discover all the details of a MBz DRIVE CYCLE, but it would be better if you could find the details from a DRIVE CYCLE listing book.
Okay I am having a major problem with my computer. I have this Norton Anti-Virus Protection Software on my computer and had it ever since December of last year. I have had no problems with it up until This past weekend. All of a sudden it has been de-activating itself and it wont re-activate. What could the problem be here? You have a virus witch deactivates any anti-virus/malware stoper/ad stoper type of softwares. Over the last couple of years I have become somewhat of a pretty decent computer nerd, doing some repairs for friends, hardrive replacements, upgrades internally etc, and have been entertaining the idea of building my own computer and been looking into barebones kits on Newegg.com. I've noticed that the prices can vary, and was wondering what what included in these things. Do they come with CPU's? Heatsinks? Is there onboard sound and video? Does the board even come with the unit or is it just the case and power supply and cords?

Barebone is usually case, psu, and motherboard. Pending on what type of motherboard will tell you if you have onboard sound or video. The PSU will come with all the cords. Make sure to read descriptions! Also, if you're looking for a new computer yourself, check out my site, we're a high end gaming computer company.
I would just look for the product descriptions on such sites. Usually they will tell you what's included in a kit. It may vary, and it may depend on what you want. A case is just that, the case (and maybe the supports inside for holding the motherboard and such). You would then have to pick what motherboard and CPU you wanted to put in it, the graphics card, hard drive etc. etc. But again, look for the product descriptions, they should included such details.
Barebones come with a lot of different stuff. We got a barebone that had everything you needed to build a computer except case fans (runs ok and stable without the case fan).
I am installing a fresh copy of XP-pro onto a self-built computer. The problem is, when I follow the usual steps in installing an OS, rather than the whole "choose the partition, auto-reboot, automatically install and done" routine, it is doing the repair (not the repair using console) mode. The disc copies all the files onto the blank HDD and when it restarts it goes back to the CD, even if I've set HDD as first boot device. Anyone know what's going on here?

format a clean floppy
run the program it writes to the floppy and creats a windows 98 boot disk.
start pc with floppy as first boot

once a:/ is flashing type in fdisk
delete the hdd partition
then create a new partition and make active

Some Dells don't come with a system restore CD... Instead, they have the original OS image on a hidden partition of your hard drive.
If you need to do a complete system recovery, you can hit Ctrl-F11 or Shift-F11 at boot to launch the utility.
I recommend that you do a 'System Restore' to an earlier date....good luck
look around in the Programs section of the Start menu you may find it there...if not you can always dig around the web via Google ... maybe even find out more on Dell's website/support
I have a 50 foot VGA cable with HD-15 connectors. The problem is that this gets used by multiple people in different settings and someone managed to bend some of the pins beyond my ability to repair. Is there a website that explains how to replace the connectors? I don't care to take it to a computer shop and be charged $50 to repair it when I know I could do it myself if I have the instructions. You would end up spending just as much money on the proper tools and such to repair the cable yourself. Your best bet is to go to either MicroCenter or better yet, Newegg.com and pick up a replacement VGA cable. I got a 25 foot one on there for $10 and its actually a really nice heavy cable. Good luck!

Check these against your computer configuration (capacity).
Limewire DOES use up a lot of your RAM especially when opening.

I've had it for about a year and my computer is fine.
Computers always run slower when downloading. I use limewire all the time, but never download videos. Most carry viruses. What I do is install it when I am in the mood to make a cd and uninstall it right after. I have done this about 5+ times now. I just made a new one about 2 days ago with nothing but my favorite songs from this group I listen to. Greatest hits albums just don't cut it. I usually just buy my music from the store, but I like to make old school cds. And limewire is perfect for that. You should do a scan of your comp to see if you have any viruses before jumping to conclusions. Because like I said, downloading always makes computers run slower. The more you download at a time, the slower your computer runs.

As long as he has an open expansion slot, there should not be a problem.
The best way to figure out if it works is to just try it. If the computer freezes up or an error occurs, just remove the card and then you will know that it does not work,

Your son's CPU is too slow.
It will work but may not record TV in sync with audio and it may drop frames. It won't hurt to try.
Just make sure the computer isn't being used at the time or is downloading via P2P or running a virus scan.

I improperly shut down my computer and the next time I switch my computer on it says windows failed to initialize due a broken windows setting or corrupted file. you may try to repair it by inserting cd whatsoever, So I did try to repair it, but some programs can't run anymore like they were before.. The computer terminates the program and says something like this "The memory could not be written blah blah blah! click ok to terminate the program or cancel to debug!! moreover, the online games I used to play can't run either. I'd suspect software before hardware, if it's not too much trouble I'd try reinstalling Windows before you run out and go buy a new computer.

the blue screen came out when there's a failure hardware on pc.
it usually came from memory.take it back to the store where you buy your computer and claim for warranty.
anyway memory is a life time warranty. the store where buy your pc will replace your memory for the new one. or they make diagnostic first to your pc to find out what's wrong with your pc.
I had lots of problems with my first pc. check with your manufacturer, I spent many hours on the phone with HP. I had to eventually send it back and they had to replace the Hard Drive. I say this because your computer should still be under warranty. If it is not then try the OS reinstall.

First try to do a system restore. Restore the system to a day you know all was OK. Reboot your PC and tap the F8 key. Go into safe mode and do a system restore using a system scheduled restore point.

all u need is a decent anti virus, Mcaffe 2007 works well among many others.
Do an online virus scan to check and remove virus and spyware if you still have viruses on your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .

i downloaded it..but everytime i try to start it i get a notice that says "itunes cant run because some of its files are missing"....i tried to repair it, yet i get that same message. when i went to uninstall it i got this message again and then i was asked to restart the computer....what files do i really need? i use xp.
I would go back and download it again. It sounds like the whole thing did not download, maybe it was interrupted somehow. Do not rename any of the files or folders because iTunes looks for files by name, not by location.

basically the file is in use so nortons cannot repair it. So what you do is boot in safe mode where only a small amount of the operating system is used, allowing nortons to repair it

I have run spybot, registry repair, plus free version of AVG anti spyware (which only runs manual). Once I run them, they always find stuff in the computer and then I reboot, upon reboot the computer works normal, but next time I want to use it is again slow, or even slower than the last time. Use Ad-aware 2007 personal (free),professional not free from lavasoft.com it's a potential very popular anti-spyware.
Other maintanance like HD defragmenting,terminating unnecessary processes running at the background thru Windows task process manager (ctrl+alt+del),disk cleaning up may help.

No, the two connections are not compatible. You need a firewire circuit board plugged into your computer.

Most likely the cd is scratched or in remote occasions, cd rom drive needs cleaning. Try and copy all yur cd contents onto the hard drive and install from there. If it works, u kno is a cd problem and the contents u copied on yur hard drive, burn them onto a new cd. If that doesnt work, go to www.driverguide.com. go to the printers webste and download an updated driver pack, then turn off your antivirus and install it!
it sounds like the cd try cleaning it with a little windex and a paper towel that usually works for me
That .dll belongs to a Lexmark Series 810 printer. You will need to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. Go to Start then Control Panel. Next go to "Add Remove Programs" and uninstall the related software. If you do not have the current drivers I have provided a link.
I will be in the middle of typing a letter or document and it just shuts off. My laptop also does the same thing, usually it is because it is overheating.
My problem is when i unhook the dsl modem from my home computer which works fine, and hook it to my laptop it says limited or no connectivity. In the error box it says the problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. when i click the repair bar it says renewing your IP address and of course fails to do so and states the followind bla bla bla because the renewing of my IP address could not be completed. So here i am. And please step by step dont assume i know anything but i refuse to take it to a shop
right click network places, go to properties. Right clikc on your connection, go to properties, scroll down to tcpip click on properties make sure it is checked obtain an ip address automatically. If thats ok go to internet, tools, internet iptions, connections, make sure its set to never dial a connection other then that you can purchase a pcmcia nic and try that. Maybe your internal card is bad.

Go into real estate. Unlike many think, it doesn't take money to make money. Get a loan to buy a cheap fix-er-upper. Fix it with your hubby (you can learn to do pretty much anything online and by looking at well done homes) and either rent it or sell it. Renting it out will be better for you in the long run because after it's paid off, every month's rent will be income for you. Selling is better for getting fast money but it won't give you as much.

If you have ITunes, you may be able to get them to your computer by plugging your IPod into your computer and then transferring them to ITunes.

Change your boot sequence so that your first boot device is cdrom
then use your XP install cd when your computer is booting then you can go repair mode but dont try if you dont know how to
Your going to need to format you hard drive and re-install Windows.
When starting you PC hit F2 or the Delete button... you need to change you "Boot Sequence" to the CD-Rom drive.
Save and exit....
On startup it's say "Boot from CD" or something like that... follow instructions from there.
You best just take it to a computer shop if you not good with computers.

Depending on when you got your laptop, it may still be under warranty (most computers come with a 1 year warranty). Call them anyway to find out what your options are.

I bought a computer from best buy with windows vista on it because I bought it off the shelf I don't have the vista disk. I downloaded a program now my computer won't operate windows and I can only access computer in safe mode. I have tried system restore but it won't work without vista disk.

They are supposed to give you a disk with the computer. It's part of the package. Tell them and they 'might' give it to you. Can't hurt to ask otherwise they'll make you pay for it. Also make sure and ask for any driver disks if they are needed for your model PC. You might need to install drivers seperatly before you can access the internet to get the rest.
If you have to pay for Vista the best place to get it is newegg.com Shop around there for an "OEM" version of the SAME version of Vista you've been running. The OEM versions are a lot cheaper it's what they were supposed to give you.

There are loads of online tutorials out there that will allow to test your skills in this area. Programming is suited to logical types and clean efficient code is very important for software performance. You will soon get a sense if you are suited to it or not but do try a few different languages so that you can see if you perhaps you may be better suited to another language before giving up.

Get a pack of dry erase markers from an office supply store. Have a small soft cloth damp with rubbing alcohol.
Rub the dry erase marker on the permanent marker then wipe over gently with the rag.
Dry erase marker contains a chemical that dissolves permanent marker. I have done this on counter tops and windows when my son went crazy with a permanent marker and it worked. I have not tried it on an LCD screen but you have nothing to lose.

you didn't say what the problem with IE is. Running System Restore doesn't fix software, just reverts the system to an earlier time, primarily for retrieving files or udoing a change tot he system. Try running windows update, or in your programs list from the start menu, navigate to find where IE (no add-ons) is listed and see if it runs.....if it does its probably a toolbar error, or something is corrupted in the folder. If you can get it to run you can get to windows update site and "reinstall" IE....if not download firefox to a jump drive on a "working" pc then install from the jump to the "non-working" pc.....then you'll have a more secure browser and be able to run updates and get antivirus programs and the like to scan and repair your system

I agree. When I was in hygiene school we were told over and over to watch how many towels we used just to dry our hands becuz in the real world dentists are cheapskates with what they need to spend. They should be, if people knew all the supplies and other expenses that it takes and just the stress of getting that far in your career, you should be making that much or more. The dentists at my office are very nice and have done a lot of quick procedures free of charge when I've walked in needing something like a small chip drilled smooth.

Computers are a single, niche market. Most companies that sell computers also sell lots of other stuff, like televisions, DVD players, software, DVD movies, etc. BestBuy is a good example of this. Of course, you cetainly don't need to have a store as big and fancy as BestBuy, but you could certainly use their business model. A small, but extremely comfortable store will bring customers to you. Often times, small businesses don't make it because of their presentation, in other words, the store that they operate from sucks. K-Mart is an example of this. They sell all the same stuff as WalMart, but their stores suck and as such, WalMart is kicking K-Mart's butt. Until K-Mart figures this out they are just going to continue closing down stores and their stock is going to continue to plummet. A small but very comfortable, inviting store can do wonders for your business. Interior decorators specialize at this kind of stuff; don't try to do it yourself because you need an outsider's opinion at this, especially one who is a professional. It doesn't have to cost you much. Take a look at some of the television shows, such as those on HGTV where for $2,000 they completely fix up a house. You could do the same with your store. Perhaps you could even have a small coffee shop/cafe in there. Little touches like this can make all the difference in the world between a company that goes out of business, and a company that is wildly successful. Anyway, companies that sell more than just computers, such as BestBuy, don't cater to any one single niche market, but rather, to a broad customer who may be shopping for one of many different products. nothing worked, its still really slow, it takes anything upto 10 mins just to open 1 thing.

If this problem did not exist from the beginning when you first had this PC, and since then you have not done anything like upgrade your Windows to a later version (eg. Win98 to WinXP, or XP to Vista), then I would say that your disk space is probably the issue. Check how much disk space you have left. if you have less than 1Gb on each of the drives, then that's definitely your problem there. Add a second hard disk to your PC and move most of your stuff from the old drive there, then you will see the speed go back to "normal".
Another thing that will affect your computer's performance is the RAM. How much you have and what OS you're running plays a big part. If you're running even a P4 but with only 512Mb of RAM and you have Vista loaded, your PC will definitely crawl. 2Gb will be sufficient to experience Vista comfortably.

You can remove the hard drive and stick it in another PC and copy the files off. Make sure you set the pin in the back to 'slave' if necessary and check the BIOS of the machine your putting the drive into to make sure that slot is enabled.
yeah this is a kinda tricky situation but here goes you will need two hard drives for this lets call the hard drive that has the data on it HD1 and the other one HD2 first take HD1 out of your computer completely and then place HD2 in their(on HD2 you will need to either have windows intstalled on it already or get it installed) now boot up your computer once everthing is up, shut down your computer and completely unhook your power to it
After reading other similar questions, I think dust is probably the cause of my computer's inability to completly power up (fan starts up, light comes on, hear a beep and then it just dies). All I really want to do is save my pictures that I have on it saved on it onto a disk; is it possible to repair, or somehow jimmy it to work one last time to get them before it dies??

Dust CAN DAMAGE any electronic component because of it's heat insulating effects.
Components covered with dust heat up more easily, thus resulting (over the long term) in damage or failure.

I have Dell Inspiron 9300 and I had to send the computer to the Dell repair center when the computer started making loud noises. You can drive it like that for a short period of time. Dont just assume it's the egr valve because an egr code comes up. Over 75 percent of the time it's not the egr valve causing the light to come on so be careful.

It means that a critical system file is missing, do you remember if you had any viruses? A virus or trojan could have caused this problem. The only way to fix it is reformatting with a windows XP disk, but if you don't have one then you can't. Good LucK.
You were probably in the middle of something and when that file was loading or running, the power went out and then it caused the file to be gone.
You can try booting in safe mode by pressing f8 on startup. Sorry bro, but thats all i can do.

I also installed netscape. Since I upgraded IE and installed netscape my computer is not running good and I have to keep repairing my screen graphics. IE7, Netscape, Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com) are all browsers that use more system resources than IE5.1. This means it takes more for your system to run them than the old browser.
This may be a case where in order to run the new software you may need to have a more powerful computer. What are the specs on your system?

it usually means the oxygen sensor is fouled or the mass air flow is fouled. there is a mass air flow cleaner like carb cleaner that is cheap so try that first then if you climb under the car and look at the exhaust pipe you will see a spark plug looking thing and that is the o2 sensor
Try checking PCV Valve, EGR, and O2 sensor in this order.

when I tried to log in today..It said "no connection found" and would not open my homepage..I checked the connection to my dsl and everything was connected properly and still no luck..So what I did was ( I new I had aol free for 3 months if I wanted it so I started the set-up process to see if it could find the connection..at first it said it could not find it either but gave me the option to "repair" the connection and when i did that the connection came back up..my question is what happen to my computer that it needed to be repaired (virus)? is there a different way to "repair" it without going thru aol if it happens again?
The most likely cause was a mis configured IP address, it happens from time to time, If you go to control panel and network connections, then right click on your connection it should give you the option to repair the connection.
You didn't say who your ISP provider is, but if you have frequent trouble with this, you might want to call them and let them take you through your configuration to make sure it's done correctly.

Take it to a professional, as long as no other components were damaged they can put it back together for a nominal fee. But first ask them how much to replace the screen to see if it is worth it before you shell out $$$.

My desktop computer boots but then the monitor goes black like its in stand-by mode only sometimes, the other times the computer freezes. The last thing i did to it was replaced the .net Framework file because it wouldn't update. Could a simple update fix this problem i'm having or should I try repairing windows .. Will that even help??
Same thing happend to me. it was my graphic card, it had burned so if you tried to run anything that it couldnt handel it just turn off. Try removing the Video card, and see if it starts without it. if it doesnt then its not the card, and might be windows and you probaily have to reformat.
If your graphics card burned you would get nothing...
Try reinstalling windows.
My 1991 Honda Accord has a replaced newish engine and transmission in it (~45K miles) and it was never beat on afterwards.
My problem is this, it drives fine in first gear up until second gear (its an automatic), but after that it sorta just dwindles into it dying.
I'm wondering if its the transmission or the computer sending signals to the transmission that makes it act this way. ALso, does anyone know roughly how much it may cost for the parts and/or labor to fix it?
Everything about the car works, minus this one problem... I figured I'd ask here because right now I can't even get it to a repair shop to have someone look at it.
from what it sounds like a bad 02 sensor but could also possible need a tcm( trans control module) not sure from the description though

You need to figure out which virus you have. Get on another machine and connect to the internet to see what steps need to be taken to rid the machine of the virus.

It sounds like you may have Spysheriff. Download Spybot search and Destrop and it will get rid of it.

First always check the connections in the back of the PC.
Try rebooting your computer - if that doesnt work try reinstalling the sound drivers.
Do not system restore, it is too late. That should be done in steps as your content grows.
Control panel, system information. In tools scroll to direct x and run the diagnostics function. It will test the voice and all other functions of the computer. You can trouble shoot your problems as well.
for a start, i dun think u use scsi/raid so u could safely ignore that. but if u want, u could try installing the drivers from the cd that came along with ur mobo. as for the unknown device, its hard to guess. u could try going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com ... if u are in luck, u could get the drivers for the unknown device there. if i had to guess, i'd prob say u need to try reinstalling ur sound card and modem (if u have one) drivers

i need a new computer. the store where i have had repairs done is selling a brand new(so they say) computer with a cd burner and windowsxp. they want $350 dollars for it and they'll let me pay on time. what else should i check out about it before buying it?please tell me in laymans terms(not that computer savy). thanks for all answers.

Here are some basics...for a usable XP computer.
-Watch for Celeron Processors, Low cache makes them sound good, but they really can't get it done...
-If not a Pentium D or AMD X2 (Both dual core processors) It should be a the previous models like Pentium 4 from 2.8-3.4GHz
-at least 512MB RAM (Should be 1 GB)
-Hard drive should be at least 80GB's that depends on what you will use if for
-On XP, if your not in a business environment you don't really need to worry what XP it is. The home does everything the Pro does except for some added domain functionality and business type issues...
If I knew the exact computer you were talking about, I could tell you flat out, but this is the best advise in "Layman's" terms I can give you.

10 days ago I had AT%26T "repair" my 1710 Gateway router so that I could get the internet. The only was now is to have the ethernet cable attached to my computer. It always worked before this! I had to have work done on my computer before the "repair."
Hi, Connecting your router via a fast ethenet card is far better as this is a much more direct route than attempting a wireless conection that can be temprimental and you will gain nothing. There is no difference in performance by connecting a router via an ethernet card than by wireless connection., in fact a wireless connection can pickup interferance if placed in the wrong place, ie near a speaker for instance.

I asked this question before and got told to put the disk in and select repair, but I don't have this option. I only have the recovery DVD for the computer and when I put that in all I can do is a system restore. However I have so many files and programs which I won't be able to get back, and which I need desperately.

I have a similiar problem I have an error message at the boot up so I changed my Bios to boot off a Cd then when it try's to boot up I tell it to boot off the cd by following the instruction to press any key then after all is loaded I press R for repair then type at the prompt the instruction fix boot then type y when asked then reboot computer but as soon as the writing appears on the screen remove the cd drive by opening it then, your computer will start up but enventually after I have saved all I need into my removable hard drive I will reinstall windows XP and all the programs I need to ~~

I have a report due Monday, September 17th, 2007 and i saved it in my computer but here is the problem: I put it to stand by and i went out. when i came back i saw that the computer was still on but nothing on was showing in the screen so i try to restart by pressing the button, it didn't work so i held button for a few seconds and it turned off. NOW today i wanted to use my computer but it won't show anything on screen, the fan is running, the light is on. but the keyboard and is not showing any signs. You can't really test a computer to the car. May have to do a junkyard search, or see if anyone sells them at an autoparts store. ECM, is the main computer for the car anyways.
install the ecm in a donor car see if she runs or try an ASE school training center and ask the instructor for advice......
you can test to see if it works at a local auto-zone or advanced auto sometimes. the best place and often the cheapest place to find replacement parts like that is the junk-yard. computers cost alottttt of money, and they sell them at a reasonable price at the junkyard. one person's trash is another person's treasure...
I don't know THAT much about wireless internet but am usually capable of fixing it but not this time. I'm on my main computer. I have a laptop as well that isn't properly connecting to the internet. It says that it IS connected but when I click on internet explorer it says "Working Offline" so obviously it isn't connected. I tried hitting "repair" many many times but its not working. It says that it can not complete the repair because it can not renew the IP address. Sometimes it does repair everything successfully but internet explorer still says "working offline." I NEED HELPPP!!!!!!!! Any computer wizzs out there that can solve my problem????

My OS (Windows XP Pro) has started acting strange. The task bar (system tray, start menu and everything), and desktop icons disappear. The only way that I can navigate around the computer is by pulling up the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and going from there.
Intermittently, when I try to open My Computer, it fails to populate and fails to respond. Intermittently, when I open the Control Panel, and go to add and remove programs, it fails to populate and fails to respond. I get a rundll32.exe not responding error message.

I own a zune and this is the issue. At my parents house I try to plug my zune into the computer and it show its connected, also when starting the computer, the computer will say that an unexpected error has occurred with an external usb port. when that happend to me at bootup i wait till after the computers all loaded up and then i plug it and it usually works. and i'm not sure but make sure you have the software on your grandparents computer cause it doesn't read at all if it doesn't have the program

I just had this problem recently. You will need to uninstall your Norton software and then reinstall it. This stopped the problem for me.

5 months ago, I ordered a Dell Dimension E521 with 3 years of PCCILLIN. The computer quit working a month ago and finally was picked up for repair last week. I was delivered another Dell Dimension (C521, not E) the day before it was picked up. It was from a different companty (Blue Hippo), and was supposed to be Gateway. The new one has a trial of McFee on it and wants me to pay $149 for renewing it! I have my PCCILLIN cd from the other Dell, can I use it on this one?
