Is $350 a good price for a computer?

i need a new computer. the store where i have had repairs done is selling a brand new(so they say) computer with a cd burner and windowsxp. they want $350 dollars for it and they'll let me pay on time. what else should i check out about it before buying it?please tell me in laymans terms(not that computer savy). thanks for all answers.

That's a good one...Here are a few pointers...



If they are claiming it's new...I would expect a close comparison.



Here are some basics...for a usable XP computer.



-Watch for Celeron Processors, Low cache makes them sound good, but they really can't get it done...



-If not a Pentium D or AMD X2 (Both dual core processors) It should be a the previous models like Pentium 4 from 2.8-3.4GHz



-at least 512MB RAM (Should be 1 GB)



-Hard drive should be at least 80GB's that depends on what you will use if for



-On XP, if your not in a business environment you don't really need to worry what XP it is. The home does everything the Pro does except for some added domain functionality and business type issues...



If I knew the exact computer you were talking about, I could tell you flat out, but this is the best advise in "Layman's" terms I can give you.
