Why does my internet not connect whenever I shut my laptop lid and then re-open it?

I have an excellent signal on my wireless connection, yet it comes up with page cannt be displayed. Repairing does nothing but restarting the computer sorts it. If I do not shut the lid, it is fine. It is only a minor irritant but an irritant. Please no answers of do not shut the lid!

Well, when I close the lid to my laptop, it goes to sleep, so the internet connection closes. However, when I open it, the connection does come back.

Could you possibly go to the network status and reconnect to your network without restarting?

If you go to Wireless Network Connection Status, (which is an icon in my start bar) click properties, then Wireless Networks. Highlight your preferred network and choose advanced. Choose the connection tab and check the box that says Connect when this network is in range. This can also be found by going to start/control panel/network connections/wireless network connections.

This should automatically connect you from now on if you wish.

(This is for XP by the way. I'm not sure about Vista.)

Hi, this usually happens cause the drivers for your wireless card don't cooperate well with the system's power management. I would suggest u first of all update your operating system and download most updates. After doing that download the latest drivers for your wireless card from their website. Also download the latest vga card drivers for your vga card. VGA card drivers have a lot to do with power management as well so it should improve.
