I tried to add a dial up modem to my computer. While installing the modem the computer sudddenly powered up. Now all I get is a blank screen. Is my motherboard dead? 'm about two hours from going to the PX to purchase a computer that I'm probably going to be happy with if I can't repair this one. Please advise....
DID I kill my computer?liveupdate
It really looks like u've damaged ur motherboard. an overdose of power might have caused it.....never connect any hardware while the switch is on. u can go for a new motherboard instead of buying a new pc...it'll cost a lot lesser and u'll retain ur old hardwares too.
sorry!
DID I kill my computer?nortin
you can't do a hot install (system on) with any device except usb.you probably burned out your processor or mobo.
Well you obviously failed the most important rule of hardware installation -- MAKE SURE THE POWER CORD IS UNPLUGGED!!! Motherboard and probably the processor got fried, more than likely. The cost of replacing these will be more than buying a new PC. Enjoy your new PC.
No. You probably fried the motherboard or the power supply burned out.
Both can be replaced if you knowing what you doing and next time unplug the computer and wait 2-5 min. before touching it. :-)
If fried, you can replace your motherboard with a new one instead of buying another computer.
might be too late, but always a good idea to remove the power cord before adding peripherals, you may have fried the motherboard or the power supply, which can be repaired, but it may be cheaper to buy a new one.
best advice is to ask the advice of a hardware provider
