After I turned on the CPU, I am just seeing a dark purple screen for minutes, how can I fix it?

I investigated about this and asked the last user but he does not know (hopefully he is not lying) how it turned out to be. I cannot identify the possible causes. I checked the wires behind and all the connections. I kept on rebooting it but still nothing happened, the blank purple screen just stays there after waiting for several minutes. It seemed weird because within one minute or so, my PC already starts up and I can see the "Welcome" screen after. Could someone pinpoint the possible causes and enumerate the possible solutions? I will appreciate them very much. I badly need to fix my computer because I'll be soon back in school. I like to fix it myself first and if I cannot then I will hand it to computer technicians for repair (which I need to pay).

Check for obvious mechanical connection problems. Is the viedo port cable securely connected? Pull it out and press it back in and turn those thumb screws down snug. You did check to see that the power was getting to the monitor? All obvious things before trying more elaborate and lengthy routes.

Still nothing? Could be a bad video card. Swap out the card for another one. Don't have a spare? That limits that troubleshooting attempt. Monitors rarely go bad, but do.

Have a spare monitor?
