I have a Lexar Jump-drive (128 MB). The other day I plugged it into my laptop, and it didn't recognize it. I restarted my laptop. No dice. I plugged it into another computer. Nothing. I did the whole install hardware wizard on Windows XP. Nothing. How can I fix my thumb drive? Or do I need to take it to a computer fixer man? I have important files on this thumb drive!!

My drive just broke the same way, so I did a search online to try to find the answer to how to fix it, but, alas, everyone said I was screwed. So, I voided the warranty by cracking the case with an exact-o knife, and I plugged in the bare PCB to a free USB port. I tapped the contacts across the 12mhz crystal, and that seemed to reset the microprocessor, and the device started up. I was as surprised as anyone, but I superglued the case back on, and it's still working now. I do refuse to accept responsibility for anyone repeating my gamble. All devices are designed differently. If you do crack the case, look up the microprocessor online, by part number, before doing anything. Unless you are an electronics engineer, you should consider your device dead, and cash in any mfg. warranty first.
