Emergency Computer Help?

I tried to start my computer this morning but the windows won't start and give the following message on the monitor.

" Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.

\windows\system32\config\system

you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using this original CD-ROM

Select "r" at the first screen to start repair"

When this messages shows up, I tried to exit it but the computer restarts itself everytime i press a key and the same message shows up.

Can anyone help me? this is very important because I have a lot information inside my computer and it would be a disaster if i lose them.

Thank you!

Try switching to Linux OS.

But if you don't want to, try the steps:

1. Insert XP CD.

2. Reboot.

3. Make sure you'll only do A REPAIR, NOT A NEW INSTALLATION!

4. After the repair is finished, reboot.

5. Start a Disk check( to make sure you don't have errors in your computer again).

6. Defrag disk to restore you PC's stability and performance.

7. Reboot.

That's that!
