Computer doesn't want to connect online?

I just did a fresh install of Windows XP, but it seems the computer won't utilize it's broadband connection. I plug it into the computer, it says it's connected at 400mbps, but it won't send, or recieve packets. I attempted to use the "repair connection" button in the properties tab, but it claims it can't form a proper TCP/IP connection. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Yes, I have had that problem before. First, power cycle your cable modem, that is, turn the power off and then turn it back on. The next step is to make sure that Windows sees your Network Adapter. To do this, Right click My computer, then select properties, then Device Manager. If your Network Adapter in Device Manager shows ANY YELLOW, that probably means that you do not have the drivers for the Network Adapter, and you wont be able to go online until you get them. To get the drivers for the network adapter (also called NIC card) open the cover to your computer and write down the make and model number of your nic card, then go to another computer that will go online and download the driver to your nic, and install it on your PC. If you can not find the NIC drivers, then you will have to buy a new NIC card, which will have an install CD or floppy with the drivers on it, which will solve your problem.
