1.If you repair it you will not lose any work
2.if you reinstall it and format the partition(C:\,D:\.E:\ etc.) in which you are having your files it will be deleted.

allways back ur system when u do either-- so u dont loose ur stuff --- how to back-up can be found on google
you may well do yes, best to back them up to dvd or cd first, you may be lucky afterward your restore and have a windows.old folder, all your stuff should be there, but best to back it up to be on the safe side.
If you use recovery CD the answer is yes, if you use windows installation CD the answer is no if you don't format if you format you lose every thing .
